At the risk of giving a groan-worthy answer, I’d say it depends (yeah, cheap cop-out move I know). At work I am quite content where I am as a sales grunt, though if the role of assistant manager did arise, I would not turn it down. I don’t tend to seek out leadership roles within my real-life or online communities; I am happy to drift along. That said, if required, I’ll take the lead in ensuring a group of us make it from A to B (for example, if out with the family, I’ll usher them along if needed, should we be at risk of running late).

It really all depends upon circumstances.
