Bloganuary the 6th – Inspiration

Today’s prompt is ‘who is someone that inspires you and why?

Can that person be fictional? Can I choose more than one person?

The Doctor from Doctor Who is a tortured soul who is committed to helping people. They don’t carry weapons – they have a sonic screwdriver, a tool to fix things. They will never turn down a request for aid. Sometimes they stand alone against the darkness, but stand they do.

Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard (along with a number of movies) is a character of conviction and principle. Originally a stern, firm leader who projected authority, underneath the authoritarian mask is a man of compassion. By the time the Picard series begins, the mask he wears has slipped, and the kind, caring soul underneath is revealed in more detail. There are worse people to aspire to be than Jean-Luc Picard.

There are naturally other people who have inspired me and pushed me. Family and loved ones, valued friends and colleagues too. In different ways and for different reasons, I think we can draw inspiration from people all around us. My parents have taught me many life lessons, and I’ve learned a lot from my wife and daughter too. I’m grateful for every form of encouragement they’ve given me, and I hope I can and have repaid that, at least in part.
