It’s been a little over six years since Breath of the Wild landed on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. The Wii U’s swansong and the Switch’s opening bow was a glorious masterpiece, an epic experience, and it reinvigorated the Zelda franchise by restoring it to its wonderful open-world roots. It’s been around four years since Nintendo first teased the sequel, and in 2022 the first trailers emerged, along with the title, Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom is making use of Breath of the Wild’s game engine, and expanding upon it. The land of Hyrule is rising to the clouds, in a manner that evokes memories of Skyward Sword, though the trailer seems to suggest the vast open-world gameplay of Breath of the Wild will be maintained. I have wondered if the original map will be reused, and it seems that some elements of it will be in this new game, though we shall see. Tears of the Kingdom is a month away, and I am starting to get quite excited to learn the game’s secrets.
I am also intrigued by what look like boss fights in the final trailer, though whether we’re looking at conventional dungeons, Breath of the Wild’s shrine system or a combination of both is yet to be revealed.
What I do know is that I will be keeping a diary of my adventure, much as I did before. I hope you enjoy it!
