There are a number of shows and movies that I have seen several times over. I have my ‘comfort’ shows, and I would happily watch any one of them, right now if I could.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is where I ‘cut my teeth’ as far as sci-fi was concerned. I have re-watched numerous episodes of the show numerous times, and if I flicked through TV channels and found an episode right now, I’d probably watch it. The same goes for Deep Space Nine. I’d wager I’d do the same for Stargate: SG1. I would definitely do this with the DuckTales reboot (which is arguably the best reboot I have ever seen).

When it comes to movies, it will not surprise any of you to learn I have watched the Star Wars films multiple times over, and the same can be said of most Star Trek films too. It goes without saying that The Lion King makes the list, as do the first two Terminator movies. A lot of the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe also make the cut.

Why might anyone re-watch something more than once? Well, as I alluded to at the beginning, the familiar can be a source of comfort. The likes of TNG and SG1 can be likened to slipping into a nice hot bath at the end of a long day. They are easy to watch. They are sources of entertainment and wisdom, even now. I enjoy them, and I will carry on enjoying them for decades to come.
