Writing Prompts: Share some comments from trolls and come up with clever responses

Oh boy. Where do I begin?!

I’ve dealt with quite a few trolls. Some have left comments here, others on the Coalition site. Some have attempted to be pests on Twitter. You could say I have a ‘collection’ of them now, a bit like a hunter has (however distasteful it may be) the heads of slain prey on their wall.

Some of them relate to Star Trek Twitter. Several trolls were either childish, dishonest, nasty, or some combination of all three. The same can easily be said of the vile misogynists, racists and homophobes that I have had the displeasure of encountering.

Religious fundamentalists can be particularly difficult trolls. I can think of at least two, both of whom distinguished themselves as racist, sexist and homophobic.

Perhaps the biggest troll I have encountered in recent times is Mosckerr. Not only did he prove quite cowardly in the end (not a shock, most trolls and bullies are cowards, and won’t engage with you properly), he also flooded the comments on the Coalition site with lots of small (and petty) remarks. That kind of spamming is a hallmark of someone who is incapable of holding a reasonable conversation.

The bottom line is that if you treat me in a reasonable manner, I’ll treat you in a reasonable manner. Come at me with attitude, and you’ll get attitude. This is a pretty straight-forward concept, yet you’d be surprised how many people just don’t get it.
