Writing Prompts: Green Flags

In the previous prompt, I took a look at the traits I consider to be red flags. To kick off October in the right way, I thought I’d look at the traits I consider to be green flags. What might draw me to be friends with someone? What sort of person could make me want to be friends with them?

Confidence is not the same as arrogance. Extreme confidence can verge on arrogance, but as long as you display a confidence in one’s self, as opposed to putting down others, or criticising the achievements of others to elevate your own accomplishments, I believe confidence can be a virtue. Married to motivation of others, confidence can be a green flag.

Humility goes a long way, especially when combined with gratitude.

Generosity. That’s a lovely quality.

Honesty. Honesty is virtually always good (I mean, there are times when you can be too honest, but generally speaking, honesty is better than deception).

Not taking one’s self too seriously, and related to this, being about to laugh at one’s self, are traits I find quite endearing.

At the risk of moving to, um, controversial territory, a huge green flag for me would be tattoos, but that’s because I find them to be very attractive, and I’m not sure that’s quite the same thing as a green flag! I think it shows a creativity that I like.

Kindness and compassion to animals are massive green flags to me. Showing such an attitude to creatures great and small marks you out as a good person to me.

Well, I hope this post has given you cause to smile as October begins!
