Prompted by Peckapalooza, hello!

It’s a simple word and a straight-forward expression of greeting. It can also convey so much more.

My first words to my new-born baby girl were ‘hello, I’m your daddy’. I spoke them through tears of joy and a quavering, emotional voice. That was a hello that felt a lifetime in the making. It’s such a small phrase, yet spoken in exuberant, excited tones it can remind us of the relief and delight at ending long-term separations from one another. In these challenging pandemic times, that beautiful moment where we can shout ‘hello!’ at a loved one we haven’t seen for ages is so much more than merely the word itself.

So much love can be poured into hello. We should never lose sight of that.
