Bloganuary the 16th – Passionate Causes

Today the prompt is ‘what is a cause you’re passionate about and why?

You could say I’m quite passionate about equality. On the Coalition of the Brave site I’ve had many a heated discussion with a number of people on the subject of LGBT rights, feminism and racism. I do not hide my disdain for homophobes, misogynists and racists. Related to these subjects (as there is often an overlap) is a passion for keeping organised religion out of the affairs of government. It isn’t always the case, but in my experience the political and religious right forms the biggest stumbling block to equality, in the name of ‘traditional values’. Newsflash, calling something traditional doesn’t automatically make it right or better.

I’m pretty grateful for the contacts I’ve made as I’ve tried to do my own small bit to make the world a better place. Bruce Gerencser is a new friend of mine, Rae fights the good fight (and enjoys books, which is automatically a big plus!), Jill Dennison is as passionate as they come, and I can always count on support from Ariel. There are many others and I don’t intend to give any of them short shrift, but if I listed all the bloggers who have stood alongside me, I’d never finish this post! They’ve all helped me to stay passionate on these causes, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so.
