To be lackadaisical is to be lacking in a zest for life. It is to lack spirit. To be honest, this seems like such a poor definition of what is a beautiful word. I would view being lackadaisical as being ‘carefree and whimsical’, but then, it’s not for me to redefine words, however much I’d like to!

There is an animated film on YouTube, a gorgeous piece of hand-draw art, called Lackadaisy, that harkens back to 1920s prohibition-era stories of speakeasies. The characters certainly do not lack spirit, though some could be considered carefree! It comes to mind whenever I think of lackadaisical.
