Still here? I have to assume you don’t mind some major spoilers.

Season 2 of the series began with the titular Mando trying to find others of his kind and ending up on Tantooine, a planet that’s legendary in Star Wars lore. Among the many key events we had Boba Fett, the notorious bounty hunter, being swallowed by the Sarlaac in Return of the Jedi, seemingly dead. We even had George Lucas speak of how the character was definitely deceased, leading to the argument that Lucas’ words are more important than what the old Expanded Universe depicted (Fett survived, returning to play the role of antagonist in the books). Among other arguments, this ‘schism’ between Lucas’ words and what the books revealed convinced some to regard the EU as a separate, distinct universe, and not part of the official continuity of the films.

All of this now moot, since Disney now own Lucasfilm and have moved the boundaries of what is the official, ‘prime’ story of Star Wars. What Lucas has to say is no longer relevant, for he sold the rights to his franchise and Disney now make the rules. In the new canon works of Star Wars (incorporating the films, animated shows and the live-action shows, along with new EU material) Boba Fett is very much alive, and since the Disney canon is the only canon (seeing as they hold the rights), there’s no further discussion to be had.

Fett, left, is a classic Star Wars character

In the Season 2 episode ‘The Tragedy’ Fett reclaims his old armour and proceeds to unleash a serious can of whoopass on several stormtroopers who are trying to capture the Child. Fett uses some form of club (complete with a rather nasty spike on one end) to smash stormtrooper armour and the hapless trooper inside. This is taken as a sign (ironically by those who reject The Mandalorian as not prime because Fett is alive) of weakness in trooper armour, however there are many, many caveats. We don’t know what Fett’s weapon is made of, though it appears quite heavy. It has sharp points to aid in penetration, and would most likely punch right through any conventional armour we can make right now. A blunt force weapon or the right type of blade would either cause injury through or pierce kevlar, respectively.

Wearing armour doesn’t prevent blunt force injuries. The armour plates of the knights of old could crumble and be pierced by the right weaponry. Reaching absolute conclusions (and doing so with sources that are apparently not admissible) from what we’ve seen is hasty and overlooks real world examples.
