The Meerkat Responds: The Denouncer of Reality
Recently, Derrick Thomas Thiessen (aka Mr David Tee) of Theology Archaeology (see Derrick, this is what a site purporting to point the reader in the right direction towards God using a teaching method, to quote you directly, does, it provides links and names, not petty gestures of cowardice) has been rallying against science. I have largely refrained from responding to Derrick Thomas Thiessen’s posts, aside from issuing ripostes to a couple of his stupid responses to my posts (such as his angry response to my Superman review, of all things), but Derrick Thomas Thiessen’s latest ignorant rant deserves a counterweight.
Derrick Thomas Thiessen (aka Mr David Tee) of Theology Archaeology has written, in response to me:
The human race has come a long way down the centuries. From some very humble beginnings, to developing the means to land probes on other planets. Once, diseases like smallpox were a scourge; now they’re all but erased. There was a time when it took weeks, even months, to cross an ocean, at great peril. Now we can on the other side of the world in a day. Whereas messengers would have to run or ride to convey information to distant lands, we can now do so instantly. (Meerkat Musings – site name added to Derrick’s remarks, for clarity and accountability, things Derrick is afraid of)
. But we and most Christians know better. Just a little research shows how bad science and scientists can be. Of course, unbelievers only give lip service to the destructive and harmful inventions that science, in general, has discovered and developed over the millennia.
Leave it to Derrick Thomas Thiessen to immediately lie. It is Derrick Thomas Thiessen who prefers to offer lip service. Notice that Derrick Thomas Thiessen routinely ignores all the accomplishments that have been developed via the practice of observation and study, in order to paint a narrative that science is some evil monolithic entity. This is dishonesty from Derrick Thomas Thiessen. Science is inherently neutral, and scientists do not act from a place of malice. They merely seek to learn about our world, and aim to understand how things work. It is lazy to simply say ‘God did it!’, yet Derrick Thomas Thiessen wants and demands that scientists ignore the evidence in favour of this argument.
These developments are the result of an unrelenting, insatiable desire to learn more, to peel back the layers of creation, and understand what make things work. The pursuit of science has led us to develop some powerful and dangerous weapons, but equally, we have learned all sorts of positive elements too. Why then, do some people desperately cling to ignorance? (Ibid)
Some of those dangerous inventions have a dual side, but only the negative side seems to be focused on, like guns and dynamite. When you look at the dangerous discoveries on the following lists, make sure to read the blurbs to see how bad most of those discoveries and inventions are.
13 Life-Changing Inventions That Did More Harm Than Good
12 Breakthrough Scientific Discoveries That Went Disastrously Wrong
Inventions That Were The Worst For the World
10 Most Dangerous Inventions Ever Created
These are just the tip of the iceberg that has been created or explored that create harmful inventions. We cannot forget that ‘science’ brought the world Covid. The ironic aspect of this disease was that the inventor, science, could not create an antidote. The so-called vaccines were worse than the disease and never could stop the disease or reinfection.
Meaningless waffle. I can list a great many discoveries that have been of enormous benefit to the human race. Derrick Thomas Thiessen (aka Mr David Tee) of Theology Archaeology uses numerous examples every single day. If he is so anti-science, he should not visit a doctor ever again. He should not use a mobile phone, or a computer, or electricity in any form. Derrick Thomas Thiessen, if he truly believes that science should be seen as sinful and evil, should go and live in a cave, and live off the land. What are the odds that Derrick Thomas Thiessen (aka Mr David Tee) of Theology Archaeology will continue to make use of all these benefits of science, whilst hypocritically deriding what science has done for humanity?
I’m inspired to write this because of my experiences with religious fundamentalists. I know of at least one who insists the Biblical narrative is 100% literally true, and no level of evidence or logic will sway them. What’s worse, there seems to be a steady rise in people disputing and distrusting science. They reject the science, and expert experience, in favour of their limited armchair research, and their half-hour Google search. Sometimes, in an hilarious-yet-tragic fashion, some of these wilfully ignorant people will lecture those with scholarly credentials, and dare to suggest their ‘knowledge’ is equivalent. (Ibid)
There is good reason for that. Scientists are not immune to sin, deceit, and are not omnipresent or omniscient. They are fallible human beings who have limited knowledge, and most of them are under the influence of evil.
No one, and this is not limited to believers, can blindly trust any scientist because of these facts. We find those quoted statements hypocritical because the author of those words does not believe one word we say, even though we have 4 scientific degrees behind our names.
Well this is some interesting irony from Derrick Thomas Thiessen. He claims to have scientific qualifications, but he hates and distrusts science, and scientists are not immune to sin and evil! Does this mean that Derrick Thomas Thiessen should not be trusted on that basis? He is a fallible human being, is he not, of clearly limited knowledge, so why should anyone believe him anyway? Besides, in all our years of debate, Derrick Thomas Thiessen has not displayed his credentials, either directly, or via his methods. No good scientist will start with a conclusion and then force the evidence to fit that conclusion, yet this is what Derrick Thomas Thiessen (aka Mr David Tee) of Theology Archaeology routinely does. How does he expect his scientific qualifications to be taken seriously, in those circumstances? What self-respecting individual with scientific qualifications, who claims to run a site for educational and informative purposes, is so afraid of transparency and accountability that he refuses to so much as use my name, or my even my personal initials?
My good friend, Bruce Gerencser, has also written a response to Derrick Thomas Thiessen’s lengthy-yet-misleading post, and this provoked an extremely angry reply from Derrick Thomas Thiessen. He goes to some lengths to insist he has scientific qualifications, despite never actually demonstrating he has any ability to use the scientific method.
In short, why should I believe Derrick Thomas Thiessen, when he has done nothing to earn my respect or trust, least of all in matters relating to science?
