The Meerkat Comments Policy

With this new iteration of Meerkat Musings, circa 2024, my comments policy has been relaxed. People wishing to leave comments are not required to login to do so. Prior bans and blocks have been rescinded. Meerkat Musings is now effectively an open forum for discussion. This does not mean there are no rules.

I post about a lot of stuff, including stuff that relates to theology, science, politics and society. I understand that these topics can lead to passionate debates, and to a point, I am prepared to accept these conversations could get heated. What I ask people to do is exercise some restraint, and if any given conservation is getting too much, take a minute, an hour or a day to walk away, breathe, and compose yourself.

Insults and general mudslinging will see you lose your right to leave comments here. Meerkat Musings is my sandbox, my playground as it were, and I reserve the right to revoke your ability to comment, if you abuse my relaxed position. If you behave like a child, you will be treated accordingly. If you are not prepared to substantiate your arguments with facts and evidence, you will find you won’t be tolerated for very long.

Here, in matters relating to scientific and theological debates, religious texts are not admissible as scientific documents. I am not interested in whether or not the Bible says the earth is a few thousand years old. Here, I follow the evidence, which supports the universe being billions of years old, and supports evolution. Do not ‘come at me’ to disprove these positions with anything less than rigorous scientific analysis. Quotes from religious texts will not cut it.

It goes without saying that sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia will not be tolerated, and you will find yourself facing a swift exit from a discussion if you resort to these.

If you find yourself blocked from commenting here, do not whine or complain about free speech. Your ability to write on your site or blog won’t be impeded if I block you for your behaviour and rule-breaking here.

With luck, if we play by the rules, we can enjoy some invigorating and entertaining discussions!
