The news rarely makes for joyful reading, but the news that Trump has offered Putin’s Russia cash for diesel fuel, and then had the gall to criticise Ukraine president Zelenskyy for condemning the deal, is a source of absolute dismay, or at least it should be to any reasonable soul. Trump is now effectively funding Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, whether he cares to admit it or not, and helping Russia prolong their imperialist, aggressive campaign, at the expense of the Ukrainian people.
Trump may parrot that Zelenskyy has had opportunities to make a deal. Perhaps he has, but on whose terms? Should Ukraine be forced to give up territory, and do so without any assurances or guarantees that Russia won’t simply swoop in again later on? No right-minded leader would sign such a deal. Instead, Trump should be placing pressure on Putin, and taking whatever actions are possible to curb Russian aggression. Such a course of action would require Trump to grow a spine, but he would rather be a stooge for Putin.
It is really is pathetic, and it’s all about Trump saving his own skin. He is desperate to bring down fuel prices (prices that rose as a result of his misadventures in Iran), in order to stand a chance in the upcoming mid-terms. It’s all about image and projection with Trump. He is a man of ego and no substance.
