I wasn’t quite sure where to stash this post. Did it qualify as a Meerkat Prompt, or should it fall under the generally more serious heading of a Thinking ‘Kat post? Considering the presentation of Trump’s social media post, it is pretty-much impossible to take him seriously, yet it is entirely possible – indeed probable – that Trump takes himself and his views extremely seriously.
Where then, should I place these thoughts?
The concept sort of lends itself to the post title. Definitions can be tricky.
Does it matter if we use Artificial Intelligence or Super Intelligence? Well, it certainly seems like a trivial hill to die on, but it’s also one that Trump is throwing a tantrum about, and it’s one that his worshippers are meeky obeying, falling in line like good little sheep. It is also possible it is a distraction from his other, more serious failures, but leave it to Trump to try and divert attention from his disasters by hyper-fixating on something in such a manner that makes him look even more irrational than he actually is.
What’s perhaps most telling in this ‘AI vs SI’ business is that all the major tech firms developing the technology are ignoring Trump’s strange decree, and carrying on with the term AI. After all, the very term Artificial Intelligence accurately describes what we’re seeing. It’s an artificial product and it is growing increasingly more intelligent, able to perform various tasks in increasingly sophisticated ways. Whether it’s ‘super’ or not boils down to its application, and whether it is actually of benefit to humanity.
Why go as far as to declare anyone using the conventional, accepted term THE ENEMY? Well, only Trump knows what goes on in his delicate, disjointed brain. The trouble is, Trump is clearly so unstable that he probably believes his own rhetoric, and as he knows he’s about to get smacked in the mid-terms for his government’s poor performance, he’s also panicking. Hence this strange, diversionary hill, which in the end only cements why he should not be in power.
It’s all very strange.
