I did toy with labelling this post up as a Thinking ‘Kat post, since it touches upon a sinister element of society that is constantly bubbling away. There is however a part of me that also has to pause and laugh at the fragile egos of the manosphere. You see, there have been some ludicrous reactions to the latest GTA VI information and gameplay videos, and these reactions are worthy of lampooning.
A lot of this seems to be down to a fundamental misunderstanding of how relationships actually work. The basement dwellers, incels and the fragile egos of the manosphere are angry that the lead male character – Jason – is showing awareness, appreciation and understanding of his partner’s interests and situations. Newsflash to those who seem to think a relationship between a man and a woman should revolve around male egos: that’s not how real life works. Nor is how masculinity works.
Enthusiasm about your partner’s interests, a desire to please them, and a willingness to change are not emasculating properties. Realising there is more to a relationship than demands and expectations upon your partner will make that relationship stronger, and showing growth as a human being is not a sign you are not masculine.
I don’t know what exactly is the problem? GTA games are notorious and famous for controversy, and it looks like GTA VI will have that in spades. Why would anyone be so upset because *checks notes* the lead male character isn’t behaving like a cold douchebag? Why do people still think that’s what a good man should be?!
I really am baffled by this.
