Meerkat Prompts: Bad Moods
The other day, I shared my loose thoughts on good moods (before covering off the actual intent of the prompt, RE music), so I figured sharing details of what sets me into a bad mood might not be a bad idea! I mean, it’s sort of a natural follow-up, no?
One of the most irritating things in my life would be double-standards. I know plenty of people with a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ attitude, and it definitely rubs me the wrong way. If you cannot practice what you preach, maybe keep quiet? This is in no small part why I find it hard to take the conservative religious right seriously; they abide by double-standards.
I am no fan of bullies. I will never understand why drives people to be cruel and callous toward others. What is the point of that? I know of people who seem to delight in casual nastiness, even going as far as to mock people who are grieving. Then there are those who try to suck the joy out of something momentous, like the arrival of new life into this world. These people are clearly pained souls in some way, and need help. Well, I hope they’re pained, because if they aren’t, then they are phsycopaths, which to be honest, you’d have to be in order to enjoy hurting people.
There’s more general stuff that set me in a bad mood. Lack of sleep will do that, as it might well do to anyone. I hate feeling rough with a cold, and again, I reckon that will put anyone into a grumpy mindset. Excessive chatter when all I want is a bit of peace is maybe more specific to me, but I imagine this also applies to a lot of people.
Indeed, disturbance of peace is something that really grinds my gears. There was a spell at work when we hired someone who did not stop talking. He was a nice enough guy, but his constant need to speak (and he had a rather loud, sort of brash accent too) got on my nerves. I can be quite happy in silence, focusing on work, and I don’t need to fill the air with non-stop chit-chat. It grates on me, and it doesn’t grant me happy emotions.
I could list a lot more, but would I not be revealing my weaknesses too?! Suffice to say, you shall have to wonder what else puts this meerkat into a bad mood!
