Meerkat Prompts: What’s a book that completely surprised you?
For much of the book, I would have been tempted to conclude that R. Kyle Hannah’s The Jake Cutter Conspiracy (Part One of the Tri-System Authority), was an enjoyable ride with an outcome I could have predicted, indeed one that I hoped for. The story zips along at a nice pace, takes us to a variety of exotic alien worlds with unique alien species, and then then delivers a showdown against the bad guys that… acts as a gigantic gut punch. That’s the only way I can describe the feeling it left me with. In fact, I was so stunned that I reread the last few pages, in case I’d missed something. In the end, I had no choice but to accept the ending, as much as it left me reeling.
Now, obviously I am not going to give away spoilers here, so if you want to know what was so shocking, you’ll have to read the book to find out! Suffice to say, I ended up getting the sequel, because I had to know how the story continued!
