The Thinking ‘Kat: The Follies of Farage
Owing in no small part to the unwarranted and thoroughly disproportionate coverage they get from Britain’s mainstream media, Nigel Farage’s Reform Party is doing well in the polls. Quite why such a small party in terms of MPs is getting so much more attention than say, the Green Party (which has a similar presence in Parliament) is beyond me, but it certainly seems someone somewhere is playing favourites. Will they continue to do so as Farage unveils his latest, pro-rich agenda?
Farage is a millionaire with several side-hustles. He backs the wealthy ahead of the average Briton, and nowhere does that shine through more thoroughly than with his proposals to cut the minimum wage for young people, whilst also cutting benefits for those who are already struggling. Farage wants to take this country further into austerity measures, but he can’t demonstrate how that will help people get back on their feet following 14 years of cruel and disastrous Tory austerity.
The plans to cut minimum wage are particularly evil. We live in a world where the top 1% are raking it in, whilst others struggle to choose between eating or heating. Is that right? Is that fair? Of course it isn’t, yet it’s the sort of society Farage backs. Is reducing people’s income going to have any sort of benefit? How will such measures boost the economy, or raise much-needed funds for public services? Farage and Reform have no answers, so instead distract with misleading waffle about immigration. It’s the classic distraction technique, and our media is complicit.
Let’s push back against this narrative. There is hope. Vote Green. They are our light in the darkness.
