The Thinking ‘Kat: Perfunctory Outrage
Yesterday two men boarded a train at Peterborough, about an hour north of London. Shortly after getting on, they began to attack passengers with knives. Nine people were hospitalised, and as of the time of writing this, two remain in a life-threatening condition. The two attackers have both been arrested, and are currently in police custody.
The police have been quick to downplay the suggestion that this was some form of terrorist attack. This has not stopped a great deal of speculation and assumption on social media, as to the identity of the attackers and their motives. Scores of right-wing baiters have been prowling Twitter to call upon mass deportations, well before they learned any of the facts of this evolving situation. They saw a scenario unfold that they aimed to exploit, but one of the details to emerge is that both alleged attackers are British nationals. They have been born and raised right here, in this country, and in many respects this country has failed them.
The far-right trolls who are now up in arms, and being overtly racist, are the ones who are actually poisoning this country. Their ignorance, and their often false assumptions, are the root cause of Britain’s maladies. By all means, drive those you deem foreigners (be it due to skin colour, faith or otherwise) into the dirt, treat them like pariahs, and be as hostile as humanly possible, but don’t act surprised when the systemic societal failures you are setting up for them come back to bite you.
One of the alleged attackers has since been released, so it now seems this attack was the remit of one individual, for motives as yet unknown. What is known is that they are a black person, and a British national. The focus on Twitter has been on the former, and some grifters have been suggesting that ‘non-native’ Britons should be deported. In other words, Britain for whites and whites alone.
They’re not even being subtle anymore. The sort of overt, cruel, assumptive-ridden racism that my grandfather fought against in World War II is making a comeback. The people who are displaying their racist, bigoted colours on social media are all about manufactured outrage, as opposed to having any tangible desire to fix the problems in UK society. Those who paint flags on roundabouts would baulk at donating to the Poppy Appeal. Those who denounce so-called foreign rape gangs do not give to women’s charities. They do not care about the manner in which the previous 14 years of Tory rule crippled the UK economically, they would rather blame the migrant for what they deem a quick and easy victory, rather than doing something meaningful for the nation’s benefit.
There is a concerted effort to whip people into a furious frenzy, and then aim the mob at specific targets, and it is all a distraction. The elite do not want people thinking about the truth. The biggest problem we face is greed. Corporate, economic, political greed. There is an ever-widening gulf in this country, and indeed the world, between the rich and the working class. More and more pressure is heaped on those who already have little or nothing, and to distract from this, we get the likes of Musk, Farage and Trump creating faux outrage. It is sickening, and it needs to be opposed. It is will past time for these cowardly manipulators to be exposed for what they are.
