Meerkat Prompts: Cinema Etiquette
I don’t know about you, but when I go to the cinema, I tend to sit down, open any snacks I have, and quietly watch the film. I don’t sit and fiddle with my phone, I try not to rustle packets, and I certainly don’t talk for the entire movie.
Recently, my wife, daughter and I saw the new Jurassic World movie. The film itself was quite good, but the occasions was spoiled by two lads sitting behind us, who were chatting for the entire movie. What is the point of going to see a movie if you’re gonna talk the entire time? A cinema is not your living room, there are other people to consider, yet these guys seemed oblivious to how annoying and inconsiderate their behaviour was.
Another group kept playing with their phones. Bright screens and flickering lights are completely rude in a cinema, and this should hardly be an unknown quantity, yet somehow it remains something some people are incapable of managing.
What I should have done was said something, but I held to that British notion of maintaining a stiff upper lip in the face of annoyance. More fool me really.
