Meerkat Prompts: Thor’s Cave

Whilst perusing Google Maps the other day (I like to follow the railway lines), I noticed a landmark, nestled in the county of Staffordshire, that I had never heard of before. This location is, as per the above pic, clearly visible, and it might be a fascinating little place to explore, if I am ever in the vicinity.
Thor’s Cave is a natural cavern, though how it came to be named Thor’s Cave is something of a mystery. It might come from the old English word ‘tor’, which happens to be a reference to rocky outcrops, though links to Norse gods cannot be ruled out. What is known is that the cave holds some ancient tools and artefacts from the Palaeolithic era (potentially tens of thousands of years ago), and there are also Iron Age and Roman era items as well. There are also human remains present, implying the site was a burial ground of sorts.
It is said that to fully explore the cave takes around three hours, which sounds like a lot more walking than this meerkat would be fond of! Still, that doesn’t rule out the faintest possibility of an adventure one day.
