The Meerkat Responds: Fear of Evidence
Recently, I shared some thoughts about dinosaurs. Did you know that rawr is dinosaur for ‘I love you’? Anyway, this post led to a reply from Mr Thiessen of Theology Archaeology. Derrick’s post rather expectedy rebuked the idea of dinosaurs being millions of years old, and his post took issue with the scentific methods used to determine the age of fossils.
Several days later, I posted about dating – as in how scientists date fossils, not advice on meeting people – in part to address Derrick’s assault on science and the scientific method. This has provoked a rather sharp response from Derrick, via his sister site, Theoarch.
Before I even consider getting into a lengthy back-and-forth with Derrick, it’s worth addressing – because Derrick is operating with a big inconsistency here – the long-standing problem of professional behaviour and general good conduct. Mr Thiessen continues to refuse to link to my posts when quoting them. He cannot bring himself to use my name, an irritating gesture clearly motivated by pride on his part (Derrick, is pride not a sin?). He may respond by insisting he does this to avoid being personal, but considering he routinely links to posts and names his sources, questions have to be asked. Why is he singling me out (as he often does with my pal Bruce Gerencser too)?
Lest he claim that he is consistent, I’ll provide links to various posts of his where Derrick does demonstrate he understands what good etiquette looks like. Since his argument is that not linking and/or naming sources keeps things from being personal, does this mean he considers all these posts to be in fact, deeply personal? I thought he was posting educational material?! I await his explanation for his inconsistency.

I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point.
If he responds with something resembling reasonable conduct, I may consider engaging in further discussion with him, but after all the stuff with my daughter and with work, I have no interest in his usual histronics. He can be a man, display he can drop his prideful behaviour and address the arguments I have made, or he can continue to play this strange hypocritical game, one I have no interest in indulging. The ball is in his court.
Blah Blah Blah, you haven’t earned the right to be treated with professional etiquette. Do you think I have forgotten how you have treated me in the past??? I may have forgiven, but I have not forgotten, and your use of a name I do not use just adds more evidence why you get treated in the manner you do. You are not worthy of any respect.
