Meerkat Prompts: ‘Lunch is for Wimps’

Sometimes, you have to shake your head, and laugh at the absurdity of British politics (and in particular, the crazy hills that Conservatives pick to fight on). Tory leader Kemi Badenoch and Prime Minister Keir Starmer have had a row about lunch and sandwiches, leading Ms Badenoch to go as far as to say that ‘lunch is for wimps’, and that sandwiches aren’t real food. However, she will order in steak to the workplace.

I cannot speak for everyone, but lunch is not something I generally skip, and nor do I see it as a measure of inadequacy. On any given day, be it a slow, dull day, or a frantic one, pausing to have a bite to eat and recharge is hardly a display of weakness, but leave it to a Tory to suggest otherwise. What’s even more ironic is that she orders in steak! That will be far more costly, in terms of both the food itself, and the cost of having it delivered!

Sandwiches are fine. They are quick and easy to make, and don’t cost a lot either. Most working class families – the sort of families Tories do not understand at all – will generally seek to save money, and won’t waste it on fancy stuff like steak deliveries at lunchtime, and will therefore turn to the versatility of the sandwich. There’s all sorts of things you can do with the idea. Peanut butter, honey, banana, banana & honey, banana, honey and peanut butter, marmite, cheese, cheese & marmite, ham, ham & cheese, and a whole lot more. You can toast sandwiches (a cheese toastie is very nice). You can have crusty rolls, soft rolls, baguettes, bagels, and a lot more. I have no idea why anyone would sneer at the idea of a sandwich, but some people are snobs, detached from the real world, and really quite clueless.

Maybe they need to take a break, and chill?
