Simply put: I don’t.
I don’t set out to write anything that I expect anyone else to read, or to want to read, at least where blogging is concerned. I write about what interests, intrigues and irritates me. I share a glimpse into this meerkat’s life. Whether people want to read that… I have no idea. It’s out there because I want to express all the thoughts and emotions churning around inside my skull, and if others happen to find all of that fascinating, so be it.
I guess that’s a bit paradoxical. ‘Ben, surely you want to attract attention, generate discussion, and advertise yourself?’ Well, to a point, yeah, but it’s not the objective for me. It would be a reasonable byproduct, something to be pleased about, but it’s not the aim.
Meerkat Musings is a vehicle of self-expression, creativity, and general day-to-day rantings about the world. Can I boldly declare that to be of interest to other people? Do people eagerly await my next blog entry? I don’t know, in fact I doubt it, and I am fine with that. If I worried about whether people liked what I have to say, I would never post anything!
Engagement is nice, but I am to be authentic in my voice and my opinions, and if that costs me readers, so be it.
