The Thinking ‘Kat: Egotistical Insanity
What happens when a massive-yet-fragile ego meets with huge responsibilities and a lot of power? You get some spectacularly unhinged rants.
For example, how about Donald Trump’s self-stroking speech given to world leaders in Switzerland earlier today? It’s a wonder he didn’t break his arm patting himself on the back! From wild economic claims, to historical errors, and some geographical ones, Trump’s performance was wild, but does it contain meaningful substance, or was it all about beating one’s chest?
Fact-checking Trump
The BBC gave a running breakdown of Trump’s claims as he was making them. Would it surprise anyone to learn that much of what he claimed was embellished, or an outright fabrication? All information is from the BBC live feed unless otherwise stated:
He’s beaten inflation – no, he hasn’t. Consumer prices have risen by 2.7% since Trump took office.
There are no Chinese wind farms – this claim relates to the idea that green energy is somehow a scam, yet it is another bogus statement. China hosts one of the largest wind farms in the world, and is the leader in wind energy generation.
Biden gave Ukraine $350 billion – again, not true. The US Department of Defense’s own estimates put the figure at $182.8 billion, just over half of what Trump claims.
The USA gave Greenland back to Denmark after WWII – also not true. The USA never owned Greenland. There was an agreement to station troops there during the war, and the USA could still station troops there and set up bases, under the NATO umbrella, if it so wished.
Trump has won $18 trillion in investments for the USA – nope. The available figures suggest less than half this number.
On top of all this, it also seems Trump is confused. Why did he keep conflating Greenland and Iceland? This is not the first time that Trump has shown cognitive malfunctions, and given how hard Republicans and their supporters pressed over Biden when he displayed similar problems, why are there no voices concerned with Trump’s own issues?
When those who worship Trump so blindly open their eyes to facts?
