The Thinking ‘Kat: Absolute Cowards (Content Warning: Violence, Death)
I’m loathe to discuss the wannabe neo-fascists that seem to make up a not-insignificant portion of ICE ranks, nor their supporters who relish in all sorts of shady behaviour, but the shooting of a US citizen, carried out seemingly out of brutality rather than a genuine threat to life, forces a correction to the dishonest narrative being spun by the far-right. The likes of Trump and Vance have taken to spinning the victim of this cowardly murder as being a dangerous radical leftist, and are yet again pedaling the lie that the left is more dangerous than the right (debunked in prior posts).
The video – which may be distressing to watch, so please view with caution – from here further debunks the idea that the victim – Renee Good – was acting in a violent and dangerous manner, but even if she were, this does not justify the use of deadly force in this instance, and as the video explains, law enforcement agents are not supposed to fire at fleeing suspects. This tragic event is also evidence that ICE agents lack reasonable training, falling below even the relative low standards of training granted to police officers.
What makes this even worse is the sheer number of people who agree with this. Not for the first time under the Trump administration, we have had a visible and awful demonstration of totalitarian thinking. Due process is kicked out of the door, hyperbolic claims are made without basis, and thuggery is rewarded. There are scores of examples of wrongful detainment and incorrect deportations. It is but one more demonstration of the lack of humanity shown by Trump and his worshippers. Let us hope that justice is served, and these evil cowardly policies are reversed.
