Meerkat Prompts: Window Views
It’s time for the first Meerkat Prompt of 2026! Yay! This also serves as the first post of the year, so double-yay! The question today is all about the view from my window, so I guess the first question ‘which window?’
If we go by the view from work, I can see a small bank of trees lining a reasonably busy road that leads into a roundabout. I am quite familiar with the roundabout, as I walk underneath it more or less every single day. Across the road is a shopping centre, with a frequently-busy car park. It’s not the most glorious view is it? Lines of brick and mortar do not excite the blood. Still, it is what it is, and there’s a reasonable view of the sky, which right now is a combo of clear blue and puffy grey cloud.
If I were regarding the view from home, the chief view is via the living room window at the front of the house, and it’s a simple view. There is our hedge, which right now is spindly as a result of winter, and beyond it a footpath via which I can watch the world go by, though any further view is obscured by a bank of blackberry bushes and other thorny flora. If I were to go upstairs to peek out of my bedroom window, I’d see a church in the distance on a hilltop, and additional vegetation.
So, you could argue that the views I can see from my windows are not spectacular, but they are charming to me, in their own little way. They are comforting in their familiarity.
