The Thinking ‘Kat: Empathy and Facts are clearly Hindrances…

Full confession, I have no idea who Matt Goodwin is. Whoever he is, he is running around Twitter, upset that people with serious, life-altering disabilities might earn more than someone who is working. What doesn’t appear to matter to Mr Goodwin is the costs those on PIPs often incur. They can face nearly £1,000 worth of additional expenses, according to the charity Scope.

I am fortunate. I am not disabled. I do know people who are. They are not living in luxury, far from it. They would rather not be disabled and able to work, but life has dealt them poor cards, and now they must make the best of it. Instead of advocating for treating them as a burden, how about we treat them as human beings, eh Matt? Or is empathy too hard?

Mr Goodwin’s complaint could be resolved by, oh, I don’t know, paying higher wages? I’m sure we’ll hear the usual misleading squeals about inflation, and all the usual crap that those in power wield to prevent something as straight-forward as that, but that is where the crux of the matter rests. Mr Goodwin is that part of that element of society that clearly values wealth ahead of doing what’s right, so small wonder then that he would prefer to cut benefits from those who rely upon them, than campaign for greater equity of outcomes.
