Meerkat Prompts: Wacky Dreams
Long-time followers of Meerkat Musings will know that I often write of some absolutely crazy dreams. My subconscious mind is a hive of activity, and that activity is often as wild and chaotic as any conscious thought! Here, I recount some of my brain’s most fascinating, strange, emotional and scary dreams!
The Scary Dinosaur Dream
I don’t remember this dream. I stumbled across a post about it via the Wayback Machine, so at some stage it happened, but to be fair, it was six years ago! From what I wrote, it seems I was at a Jurassic Park-type establishment, along with a team of demolishers, and at some point those demolishers decided the best to deal with old demolition charges was to set fire to them. Needless to say, they exploded, and woke something up. I ended up being chased by a t-rex, and hiding in a control room, constantly resetting the power to keep it out!
I’ve had other dinosaur dreams. One involved a bunch of raptors hunting me and my friends in an around what I think was a school. From memory, there was another where dinos were chasing me around an abandoned office block. As we proceed through this post, you’ll begin to notice that being hunted seems to be a pattern!
Alien Encounters
Whilst I am not especially interested in the Alien film franchise, the deadly xenomorphs have appeared in my dreams, more than once. In one dream, I was working with a team to hunt them on a space station or ship, but the entire time I was conscious of the fact that they were incredibly dangerous, and there was a deep sense of foreboding at every new, darkened corridor or chamber. I would go as far as to say this was an exciting dream, but a scary one as well.
I’ve also had dreams that reference the classic Grey aliens, as mentioned in a great many abduction stories, and as seen in various films and TV shows. Sometimes I haven’t seen the aliens directly, but in the dream, i can sort of sense them, along with a deep feeling of unease. In one dream, they abducted my daughter! However, I was able to capture one of the aliens in the process, and promised that whatever they did to my child, I would do to their kin, several times over, until she was released.
The Recurring Dream
This is a dream I haven’t had in a great many years. I remember it happening a lot as a cub, and I think this one was about my birth. In the dream, I was in a sort of tunnel, sort of serene and floating, and I remember a hand coming out of nowhere to grab me. This happened a couple of times before I was pulled into a light, at which point I would wake up, every single time.
The Emotional Dream
Some years ago, someone I knew via work – a customer actually – passed away. I heard this news on what would prove to be a particularly bad day, and some time later I had a dream where I was at a sort of seance, along with his widow. The spirit of this man entered me, and he shared a dance with his wife, and as the connection to his spirit weakened, she was asking about the importance of a particular number. I couldn’t tell her, as the link between her husband and myself had faltered, and she became very upset. As a result, I became upset, and I woke up with tears flowing down my face. It was among the most unusual of all my dreams, and definitely one of the most emotional.
I have certainly had other emotional dreams. Quite recently I had a dream involving my dear, amazing grandmother. In the dream, I hugged her, and would not let go for love or money. I had another dream where I was down the pub with my grandfather, sharing an experience that sadly, we never got to do in life.
Apocalyptic Dreams
The most vivid example of this would be a dream that started out in a very different manner. I had gathered with a bunch of old school friends at a pub near London’s Victoria Station, and after enjoying catching up, I left, and popped into a nearby church. Whilst in the church I looked at some kind of bowl or seal, and I moved something, seeing a sort of face bathed in a brilliant white light, which I briefly thought was the face of God. In the aftermath of this, I stepped outside the church, and into absolute chaos. It was like something out of the Apocalypse, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was my fault.
There’s more, a lot more, and I am left so beyond knowing what to make of it all. If anyone were to analyse my dreams in detail, they’d probably be horrified, and I can’t say I’d blame them!
