How Can Liberal Gun Owners Vote for Democrats?
Time for my second reblog. This post, by David Yamane, speaks of why he, as a gun owner, has a preference for voting Democrat over Republican.
Some people might consider this a contradiction. Indeed, as Mr Yamane makes clear, the Democrats have historically been tougher when it comes to gun control, and surely gun control measures are an infringement of 2nd Amendment rights? However, whilst Democrats favour more restrictions, very few actually favour outright bans. Whilst some Republicans trumpet that Democrats will trash the 2nd Amendment, there is no truth to their hysterical claims. Mr Yamane also makes it clear that the upcoming US election is about more than guns. Indeed, he presents this rather beautiful quote:
If I cared only about maximal gun rights, the NRA-endorsed candidates are the obvious choices. But, like the Liberal Gun Club says, I care about “every single civil right for every single person.”
