Do we believe in predetermined paths, and inescapable destinies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I imagine the answer rests in what you believe. Specific religious and cultural values might shift you to treating fate as fact. In other cases, you may be more open to the randomness of the universe, or to think of it more poetically, you may believe that <strong>you <\/strong>are responsible for your life\u2019s path. I for one steer in the latter direction. The idea that our lives are predetermined robs us of purpose, of identity. It leads to the idea that choice is an illusion, and that our decisions do no matter. I find that rather bleak. I\u2019d rather be the master of my own ship, so to speak. My fate is what I decide it to be.
