P is for… The Promise. This is a heartwrenching film, set against the backdrop of true events, namely the persecution of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as it began to fall. Set in 1914, this 2016 film has an impressive cast, including Oscar Isaac (who is magnificent here) and the ever-reliable Christian Bale. I don’t tend to watch historical dramas, but this was captivating and emotional.
