Tropical Wings

Some of you may be aware that I hail from the county of Essex. This little corner of south-east England has a reputation (google Essex girls or TOWIE to see what I mean), but in truth, it’s no different from any part of the UK. It has its rougher areas to be sure, but there are also areas of great beauty and a lot to be discovered too. I alluded to some of these things in a recent post, and I’m going to do the same thing here.

Tropical Wings is a zoo, located near South Woodham Ferrers, which is not too far away from the town of Chelmsford. It can’t contend with the big zoos (London Zoo or Whipsnade), but then, it isn’t trying to. Tropical Wings is a smaller environment, aimed more at smaller children, and it has plenty going on to keep little minds occupied for a full day. My granddaughter absolutely adores the lemurs, who are certainly an inquisitive bunch, whilst my daughter enjoyed it all, especially the butterflies.

They also thoroughly enjoyed the birds of prey display, and got to see a skunk, some wallabies, tortoises, monkeys, and goats. There’s a nice little indoor play area too – the two of them spent quite a bit of lunchtime running and jumping and climbing about in it!
