Science is Amazing!

That image? It’s of an object 500 million trillion miles away, and it’s 40 billion miles across. It has the mass of 6.5 billion suns and it is our first photo of a black hole. Of course, we can’t ‘see’ the black hole itself, but we can see the edge, the halo, the point where nothing can escape gravity’s grip.

What’s remarkable is that the image closely matched predictions – scientists have created models of black holes over the years, which appear to be validated by this photo. This is an amazing and awesome moment in our understanding of the cosmos.
