Anyone who is a Star Trek fan is well aware that the Federation is a peaceful government and that Starfleet’s primary mission is one of exploration. However, in times of conflict Starfleet also acts as a military force. Federation ships previously used for exploration missions became warships, and Starfleet officers became soldiers.
There were obvious problems with this, so in the next couple of articles, I will present (via the fictional setting of a briefing with the Federation Council and top brass in Starfleet) the case for a Federation military, separate and distinct from Starfleet.
