Well, sort of. Yesterday was the first barbecue of 2016, accompanied by gorgeous weather, my daughter’s paddling pool, the garden furniture and a cold beer. The occasion was ripe for meat cooked over the flame – except the bloody thing wouldn’t burn properly! I think the firelighters were too dry – I’m not sure but given the quantity used versus the actual appearance of fire, there was probably something up with them.
Did this stop me? No. I had resolved to have BBQ and after much poking and stoking one side of the coals actually began to burn pretty well. Cue squeezing everything into one half of the grill. It took a little longer than I would have liked, but burgers and sausages were eventually eaten with cheese slices and dollops of ketchup. Good times!
