The tale of the tape after the next ten Premier League games is of a season far better than I’d have dared hope for my first time around in FM 2019. I’ve enjoyed some sensational results – a 2-0 away win against Manchester City and a 5-1 away win over local rivals Everton – that have kept my Liverpool side firmly entrenched at the top of the table. In fact, my side is seven points clear after twenty games – certainly not insurmountable, but a very good position to be in.
Married to this league form has been a great group phase to the Champions League. I am proud to say my team not only topped the group but won all six matches, including away to Real Madrid, a terrific 2-1 win at the home of the reigning European champions! There’s goals to had from various quarters – with Mo Salah injured, Firmino and Mane have risen to the challenge, but from midfield Shaquiri (I’m sure I’m spelling that wrong), Fabinho, Keita, Henderson, Lallana and Pavon have all contributed quite nicely, whilst Gomez, one of my central defenders, has also scored quite a few goals! More importantly, with him and Alexander-Arnold fit, my defence is pretty secure.
Still, one minor blip has been the home draw with Watford – this maybe shouldn’t be a major surprise, given that Watford are the surprise package and occupying a Champions League spot, and nor is a draw a massive concern, but seasons can be won or lost on the basis of such results – just look at the fine margins in the Premier League in real life this season – so I am keen to avoid further blips. Every point counts, and after the next ten games, we’ll be hitting the crunch point, so it’s important to hit that run-in firing on all cylinders.
