Football Manager 2019 P3

We’re nearing the twilight of the 2018/19 season now, with the story taking a pretty decisive shape. Another ten league games have come and gone, with nine victories but one jarring defeat, away to hated rivals Manchester United. Beyond that, the attacking tactics I use have yielded some tremendous results – a 7-0 home win over Crystal Palace, 4-0 wins at Anfield over West Ham and Chelsea, a 5-1 away win over Huddersfield, and most recently, a 4-2 win over Manchester City. My Liverpool side now sit 14 points clear after 30 games. With 24 points still available, my advantage is considerable but not insurmountable. Complacency can be lethal in football.

Still, encouragement can be found in a solid 2-1 away win over German giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of my second round tie in the Champions League, plus an exciting – if defensively shocking – 6-4 FA 5th round win over Preston. Much of the success so far (which includes winning the League Cup, besting Chelsea in the final) is built upon some amazing players who have gelled into a formidable team. Youth players helped win the League Cup, but consistently great performances from Shaqiri, Gomez, van Dijik and Mane (to name but a few) have propelled me to the top and kept me there. It remains to be seen if I can stay there, but to blow this title race now would be the most astonishing failure of all time.
